A subsidiary of specialty chemicals producer LANXESS is currently building a new, 1500 m2 production facility at its complex in Brilon, Germany that will expand its capacity for continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites, the firm announced in a press release Tuesday.

The Bond-Laminates GmbH plant will produce composites sold under the Tepex brand when two production lines at the site come on line in mid-2019. About 30 new jobs will be created as a result of the project. An investment in the “single-digit-million-euro range” was made to finance the expansion.

Tepex composites are used in automotive, consumer electronics, and sports applications to reduce weight and replace parts that are traditionally made of metal.

LANXESS also reiterated plans initially announced this September for a new “mid-double-digit-million-euro range” compounding plant at the firm’s existing site in Krefeld-Uerdingen, along with a silo facility and warehouse. Construction on the new facility is slated to begin in the second half of next year. Some 20 new positions will be created when the new compounding plant opens.

The company currently owns and runs a polymerization and compounding facility in Krefeld-Uerdingen. In March 2018, the site began production of a new line of specialty compounds. Powder & Bulk Solids reported that the new plant will produce Durethan and Pocan engineering plastics, which are used in automotive, electrical, and electronics applications.
