The Care Chemicals division of industrial firm BASF recently commenced operations at its new production plant for Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Mass Balance-certified pearlizers, opacifiers, and specialty blends in Mauldin, SC, the company announced in a release Thursday.

“The increased capacity and improved capabilities underline our commitment to supporting the growth of our customers,” Danielle Piergentili, Vice President, BASF Home & Personal Care, North America, said in a statement. “By producing locally at our Mauldin site, we are increasing our reliability of supply, reducing our carbon footprint, and providing mass balance ingredients to assist our customers with their sustainability goals.”

The company said the products manufactured at the site will help to meet increased demand for specialty ingredients. Pearlizers and opacifiers are use in the production of hand soap, shampoo, and body wash.

Last month, BASF announced plans to reconfigure several of its Personal Care production facilities in Europe to manufacture hand sanitizers in response to increased demand created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
