GrainCorp Invests $39M to Boost Oilseed Processing Capacity

Australian firm GrainCorp is investing AUD$50 million (about $39.5 million USD) to expand the oilseed processing capacity of its Numurkah processing plant in the state of Victoria, according to local news media reports.

“The works will increase the capacity of the site from about 730 mt of processing a day to 1000 mt when we fully ramp up production later next year,” the plant’s manager and manufacturing general manager Troy Knox told the Cobram Courier. “So that equates to about a 40% increase in production capacity.”

A new solvent extraction plant that processes oils from canola is planned to replace an older extraction plant there. Many facets of the plant’s operations will be automated as part of the project, Knox said.

The company said it expects the first phase of the investment project to be completed this fall, and the solvent extraction plant is estimated to open in June 2018.
