Dust Explosion at Imperial Sugar: What Really Happened

This was one of the worst dust explosions in the US.

The February 2008 dust explosion and fire at Imperial Sugar in Port Wentworth, GA, resulted in 14 deaths and 38 others injured, including 14 with serious and life-threatening burns.

Actually there were multiple explosions caused by the sugar dust. As well, the packing buildings were a total loss.

The Chemical Safety Board's final report was released one year later on September 24, 2009. The report stated the explosion was fueled by massive accumulations of combustible sugar dust throughout the packaging building.
