Rescue personnel responded to the Wege Pretzel Company manufacturing plant in Hanover, PA after a man’s hand became trapped in a piece of mixing equipment, the Hanover Evening Sun reported Thursday.

The man was working with a flour mixer when he put his hand inside the equipment to remove dust and was pulled into the machinery by a blade,” Hanover Fire Chief Anthony Clousher told the newspaper.

After first responders were sent to the scene at about 3:50 p.m., maintenance workers helped move the blade backwards to free the man as paramedics performed treatment. The man suffered injuries to his lower and upper right arm and was later airlifted to an area hospital.

Founded in 1874, Wege Pretzel is America’s oldest producer of pretzels, according to the firm’s website.
