USDA Recalls: April 2024
Meat, egg, and poultry recalls for the month.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has recalled 2 products and issued one health alert in April, which is 1 more recall than in March.
Out of the 2 recalls, 1 was due to lack of benefit of inspection, and 1 for misbranding/undeclared allergens. The health alert was due to possible E. coli contamination.
Without Benefit of Inspection
ConSup North America Inc., Lincoln Park, NJ, has recalled around 85,984 lb of ready-to-eat sliced prosciutto ham product produced in Germany without the benefit of equivalent inspection. The RTE sliced prosciutto ham item was produced on various dates from Sept. 25, 2023, through March 6, 2024. The impacted product subject to recall is: 5.29-oz. plastic packages containing “Stockmeyer Prosciutto Product of Germany” with lot codes 09118-3A, 09118-3B, 09120-3A, 09120-3B, 13133-3A, 13133-3B, 13104-3A, 13104-3B, 13105-3A, 13105-3B, 13109-3A, and 13109-3B and “Best Before” dates of 4/28/2024, 5/26/2024, 7/7/2024, 8/4/2024, 8/11/2024, and 10/7/2024. These items were shipped to retail locations in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
Misbranding / Undeclared Allergens
802 VT Frozen (VT Pie and Pasta Co.), Newport, VT, has recalled approximately 8,221 lb of frozen meat pizza due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The product contains soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label. The product was produced from April 25, 2023, through April 25, 2024. The recall is for: 17.8-oz. cardboard box containing “802 VT Frozen Meat!!! Crispy Wood-Fired Crust Hand Made Pizza” with “best if used by” dates of April 25, 2024, through April 25, 2025. The products subject to recall has establishment number “EST. 46308” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Items were distributed to retailers and fundraisers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Public Health Alert
A public health alert was issued for Greater Omaha Packing Co., Omaha, NE, ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The alert is to ensure consumers are aware that these products should not be consumed. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. The raw ground beef items were produced on March 28, 2024. The products have a “Use/Freeze by” date of April 22, 2024, and packaging date of “032824.” The list of products under the public health alert is below. The product was shipped to food service institutions and retail locations nationwide.
