Instrumentation & Process Control at the Powder Show

The 2016 Powder & Bulk Solids Conference & Exhibition (Powder Show) kicks off on Tuesday, May 3 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. This year’s event will be the 40th anniversary of the inaugural Powder Show in 1976.

The highly anticipated Powder Show Conference program is crafted with input from an advisory board that is loaded with industry experts. Designed for new and experienced processing professionals the flexible conference program provides the in-depth technical training needed to brush up on the fundamentals or tackle more advanced topics.

The Conference kicks off at 9am on Tuesday, May 3, with a keynote panel discussion on, “Discrete Element Method (DEM) – Taking the Guesswork out of Particle Flow.” Computers and software are catching up with the Discrete Element Method, a modeling technology some professionals working with powder and bulk solids thought was a bit before its time. Now, the DEM is gaining traction as a practical option for addressing particle flow complications.

The discussion will cover:
* DEM – what is it?
* What are DEM’s limitations
* Professional perspectives from all over the globe on proper usage
* Adapting your current processes and equipment to incorporate DEM
* How to deal with cost implications

The panel will consist of the following speakers:

Rahul Bharadwaj, vice president – engineering & business development, Rocky DEM Particle Simulator
David Curry, principal engineer, business development, DEM Solutions
Vidya Vidyapati, particle/solids process engineer, Procter & Gamble
Kristian Debus, director of life sciences, CD-adapco
Andrés Orlando, Ph.D., project engineer, Jenike & Johanson Inc.

Then on Wednesday, May 4, from 1:30-3pm, Orlando will lead a technical workshop on “Advances in Discrete Element Method – Theory and Practical Applications.” This session will use video examples and real-world applications to address particle flow complications through the Discrete Element Method.

The workshop will cover:

* What is DEM?
* How to effectively use DEM to design and troubleshoot bulk solids handling equipment
* When and when not to use DEM
