One woman is dead and several others were severely injured in a Wednesday morning fire at a manufacturing plant located in Old Bridge Township, NJ, local police say.

All traffic was redirected from the area, and a shelter-in-place was issued for a nearby school, reported local news PIX 11.

At 11:21 a.m., police responded to a call for a fire and possible explosion at Superior Signal, a leak detection manufacturer. Upon arrival, police said multiple people were found at the scene.

Police, EMS, and fire units from other towns also assisted in battling the blaze, according to a statement from the Old Bridge Chief of Police.

One person in a stretcher, two fire trucks, and more than a dozen firefighters were at the scene.

Two medical helicopters were called in to transport victims to local hospitals. One 73-year-old female was pronounced deceased. Another victim, a 57-year-old woman, suffered severe burns to her face and hands.

A male in his 20s suffered burns to his hands, while another victim, a 65-year-old female, suffered minor burns, and a 62-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. No foul play is suspected, police said.
