Grain Elevator Destroyed by Fire in Saskatchewan

A grain elevator in Tramping Lake, SK was destroyed in a blaze that broke out Saturday afternoon.

Three area fire departments responded to the elevator at about 1 p.m. Saturday. Some crews remained on site extinguishing flames until about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

“Within 90 [minutes], it was a pile of rubble. Was on my way to dump the last load of peas in it,” Brian Kohlman said in a tweet quoted by CTV News Saskatoon.

Kohlman said the elevator was holding about 35,000 bushels of yellow peas at the time of the incident.

Officials from the Kerrobert Fire Department told local media organizations that the structure was completely destroyed by the fire.

The grain elevator was described by Kohlman and several media organizations as a “prairie landmark.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
