Dust Explosion in Drying Oven Injures Worker

A dust explosion and fire in a drying oven at a Leominster, MA manufacturing facility Thursday morning left a worker with serious injuries, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported.

Firefighters responded the Spectro Coating Corp. facility on Scott Drive at about 7:15 a.m. Workers initially reported the dust explosion, the Telegram & Gazette said. An employee was injured and taken to an area hospital.

The manufacturing site was closed the remainder of the day as investigators and inspectors from state agencies were on scene.

Spectro produces urethane coatings, specialty coatings, glitters, heat seals, pressure sensitive adhesives and other goods.

The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.
