Mars Injects $200M in Pet Food Plant Expansion Project
The company said five new production lines will be added during the project, doubling the site’s capacity.
The pet nutrition business of food and beverage company Mars Inc., Mars Petcare, is investing $200 million to expand its Lebanon, TN manufacturing plant to support production of Royal Canin cat and dog food and EUKANUBATM health and nutrition products, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced in a release this week.
During the project, five automated production lines will be installed that will double the plant’s capacity. Mars Petcare will also add 108,000 sq ft of new space to the site.
“We have experienced tremendous growth, and the expansion of our Tennessee site confirms our commitment to meet the needs of the growing number of pets we serve. We are industry leaders in pet health and we have a responsibility to our pets, our pet owners, our associates, and the pet professionals and communities we serve,” said Cecile Coutens, regional president for Royal Canin, in a statement. “We are beyond excited about our investment in our Lebenon site.”
Over 90 new positions are expected to be created as a result of the expansion. The company expects work on the project to reach completion in 2022.
Mars Petcare revealed plans in January to invest $145 million to increase the production capabilities of its wet pet food manufacturing plant in Fort Smith, AR. That project involves the addition of 200,000 sq ft of space to the facility and the installation of two new production lines.
