Fire at Petrochemical Plant Leaves 1 Dead, 11 Injured

A large fire broke out Tuesday at the National Petrochemical Industrial Company (NATPET) facility in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, leaving one worker dead and 11 others with injuries, officials told Saudi and international news organizations.

Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu spokesperson Abdul Rahman Abdul Qader said in coverage that “technical factors related to the industrial processes” were likely the cause of the blaze at the state-owned petrochemical facility.

Emergency personnel responded to the site after the fire was reported at about 5:40 p.m. and the Royal Commission sent teams to monitor the air quality near the plant, according to a report by Arab News. Crews were able to bring the flames down quickly.

The name of the victim has not been released, reports said. No information was available on the conditions of the injured workers.
