Linde Begins Operations at New ASU in U.S. Gulf Coast

Industrial gases and engineering firm Linde has completed the startup of its new air separation unit (ASU) in Freeport, TX, the company announced in a release this week. The facility will provide oxygen and nitrogen to MEGlobal’s ethylene glycol (EG) production facility in Oyster Creek, TX.

The company said the new ASU will also serve its industrial gas pipeline system. Beyond the ASU, Linde also expanded the Freeport site’s argon capacity and started up a new carbon dioxide plant that will recycle crude CO2 generated by MEGlobal’s process into a purified and liquified product that can be used in a wide range of industries, including food and beverage production.

“We are really excited about MEGlobal’s new facility in Oyster Creek,” Jeff Barnhard, vice president, south region, at Linde, said in a statement. “The new ASU and the expansion of our Gulf Coast pipeline system further strengthen Linde’s ability to reliably supply customers throughout the region and positions us for future growth in the U.S. Gulf Coast.”

Linde opened two new ASUs at a chemical park in China last October to provide the Taixing Jinyan Chemical Technology Co. Ltd. with oxygen and nitrogen used in the production of ethylene oxide. The firm’s units have a combined capacity of 29,000 nm3/hr.
