A massive fire ignited inside of an ExxonMobil refinery in Baton Rouge, LA on Tuesday night that created a glow in the sky that was visible for miles, local and national news organizations reported.

The blaze started at the site at about 11:30 p.m. No injuries were logged during the response and the flames were contained to the area of the facility where the fire started, Baton Rouge Fire Department Spokesperson Curt Monte said in coverage by the Associated Press (AP).

“There were no injuries much in part [due] to the swift and safe response from our ExxonMobil volunteer fire team. ExxonMobil will continue to actively monitor the facility fence line and air quality in the surrounding areas of the North Baton Rouge community,” ExxonMobil Spokesperson Danny Lee told television news station WAFB. “All readings are non-detect. We apologize for any inconvenience and concern this incident may have caused.”

Officials said they do not currently know what caused the fire. The fire was doused by 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to WWL-TV.

ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge site produces gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aviation fuel, lubricating oils and waxes, information on the firm’s website said. Beyond the refinery, ExxonMobil also operates several chemical plants in the Louisiana community.

A major fire broke out in July 2019 at an ExxonMobil complex in Baytown, TX, leaving several people with injuries and forcing officials to order evacations for those living near the plant. The blaze originated in a unit that produces polypropylene.
