Swiss food and beverage giant Nestle completed an acquisition of a manufacturing plant in Trenton, MO from Conagra Brands that will produce its Chef-mate brand of canned food, a company press release announced Monday.

Operated by the out-of-home division Nestle Professional, the Missouri plant will produce Chef-mate branded products including sausage gravy, Chili Con Carne, and cheese sauce using a proprietary cooked-before-canning process developed at the facility in 1964.

The plant’s equipment moves food to canning equipment in high-pressure pipes, where it is quickly cooked with steam injection.

“The steam heats the food without overcooking it and reduces the overall processing time so as to deliver a product with consistent, made-from-scratch taste and color,” the company’s release said.

Hiring at the plant started this March. Nestle plans to hire up to 150 workers at the site.
