Vulcan Materials Invests $50M in Aggregates Plant Upgrade

One of America’s largest construction materials producers, Vulcan Materials Company, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 4 to mark the completion of a $50 million upgrade to its Stockbridge, GA aggregates plant, South Metro Neighbor News reported.

The improvements includes measures intended to boost safety at the facility and full automation of the plant.

“This allows safer and more efficient gate operations and more consistent loads for customers at load-out bins,” Jimmy Flemming, vice president of permitting and external affairs at Vulcan, said in a statement to the newspaper. “Emphasis during construction was also placed on environmental controls and features, such as automated dust-suppression valves and road sprinkers.”

Established in the 1870s, Vulcan’s site in Stockbridge is the state’s oldest continuously active aggregate operation, Flemming said in the South Metro.

Vulcan Materials is the biggest producer of construction aggregate, asphalt, ready mix concrete, railroad ballast, and agricultural limestone in the U.S., according to the company’s website.
