Air Liquide-owned gases and safety products supplier Airgas is moving forward on plans to build a new air separation unit (ASU) in Cottage Grove, MN. Last week, officials in the Minnesota city approved several resolutions in support of the company’s $54 million project, Finance & Commerce reported Tuesday, setting the stage for construction to commence sometime in the near future.

First announced in December 2018, Airgas said the opening of the new ASU will enable the firm to meet growing demand for oxygen, nitrogen, and argon in the Midwest and better serve merchant, packaged, and on-site gas customers.

The planned ASU will be housed in twp 17,000-sq-ft structures on an 8.5-acre plot of land. Airgas’ site in Cottage Grove will also contain an outdoor tank farm and a trucking terminal, according to Finance & Commerce’s coverage. 35 full-time jobs will be created as a result of the facility’s opening.

Construction of the ASU is expected to be completed by late 2020.
