Unilever Invests in Expansion of Mayonnaise Plant in IL

Unilever is investing in the expansion of its mayonnaise plant in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, the office of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Monday.
“The investment will help us improve our site to operate more efficiently and is designed to benefit our neighborhood with reduced truck traffic and beautiful landscaping and buffering,” said Mark Carter, supply leader at Unilever, in a statement.
The mayor’s press release said the expansion will enable the factory to be flexible in making changes for future growth and support efficient operations. 200 workers are currently employed at Unilever’s Little Village plant.
“This plant supports plant supports hundreds of neighborhood jobs and this investment will help it continue to operate and benefit the Little Village community for generations to come,” Alderman Ricardo Muñoz in the release. “I look forward to continuing to work with Unilever as they continue to grow and create even more jobs.”
Hellmann’s and Best Foods brands of mayonnaise are produced at the factory.
