The European joint venture of Lamb Weston Holdings Inc., Lamb-Weston/Meijer v.o.f., entered into an agreement to acquire Oerlemans Food Netherland B.V.’s potato division, including a frozen potato processing plant in Broekhuizenvorst, Netherlands, a Lamb-Weston press release announced Wednesday.

“Our partnership with Lamb-Weston/Meijer, together with our operations in North America, allows us to reach customers around the world from key locations in the United States and Europe,” Tom Werner, chief executive officer of Lamb Weston, said in a statement. “This strategic acquisition is consistent with our investments to strengthen our position in the global industry, and to better support the increasing demand for frozen potato products and growth ambitions of our customers in Europe and abroad.”

Lamb Weston said the purchase will bring on 185 million pounds of production capacity to the firm’s existing capabilities. The company’s European venture will have a total of four manufacturing sites in the Netherlands following the close of the transaction, expected later this year.
