One of the leading companies in the frozen foods market, Ajinomoto Windsor Inc., is expanding its North American presence with plans to construct a new frozen appetizer plant in Joplin, MO, the company announced via press release Wednesday.

In addition to the firm’s plans to construct a new, $39 million facility, Ajinomoto Windsor said ownership of its food manufacturing plant in Piedmont, MO will transfer in early 2018 to producer of frozen and refrigerated food products Tasty Brands LLC.

“With the new facility in Joplin and our current Carthage plant, Ajinomoto Windsor will be centralizing our Missouri operations to create efficiency for suppliers, end users, and management,” a company press release said. “The Piedmont community has supported us for more than 20 years, and we are confident it will offer the same support to Today’s Food LLC.”

The new plant in Joplin will create about 240 jobs, according to Ajinomoto Windsor, which noted that the frozen appetizer category grows by 5% to 8% annually.

“We have been very impressed by the Piedmont community and the employees at the facility,” David Horowitz, president of Today’s Food LLC and Tasty Brands LLC, said in a statement. “We look forward to working with the Ajinomoto Windsor team to smoothly transition the facility to our Missouri-based entity, Today’s Food LLC.”
