India-based drug maker KriGen Pharmaceuticals is investing $7 million to open its first production facility in the United States in Lillington, NC, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina announced in a press release Wednesday. The 55,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant will produce liquid injectable drugs and medical IV bags.

“The vision of KriGen Pharmaceuticals is to improve the quality of human lives by providing affordable pharmaceutical formulations based on innovation and technology,” the firm’s chief financial officer, Dhruvkumar Patel, said in a statement. “We aspire to be the best health care solution providers with finished product formulation solutions for generic, as well as branded, pharmaceutical companies.”

KriGen’s new cGMP-compliant formulation facility in the U.S. will include a quality control lab and a bag filling line with a capacity of 15 million units/yr ranging from 50ml to 1000ml, according to the company’s website.

The One North Carolina Firm awarded the company a performance-based grant totaling $200,000 to assist the project, which is based on KriGen’s plans to create jobs and its level of capital investment. About 100 new jobs will be created with the opening of the new facility in Lillington. The average annual wage for workers at the KriGen site will be $42,570.

“An investment of $7 million and 100 jobs is great news for Harnett County,” North Carolina State Representative David R. Lewis said in the release. “KriGen Pharmaceuticals will find great success in our growing region of skilled workers for many years to come.”
