German adhesives and materials firm Henkel and dental products supplier Keystone Industries announced plans this week to collaborate on additive manufacturing solutions for the dental industry. The relationship will allow Henkel to add dental applications to its 3D printing portfolio and provides Keystone with the ability to increase the scale of its business.

Keystone currently offers a line of customized 3D printing solutions, which are sold under the KeyPrint brand. Henkel has been developing and commercializing additive manufacturing applications for a range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, engineering, and consumer goods.

“We are very pleased to find such a natural partner as Keystone,” Ken Kisner, head of innovation for 3D printing at Henkel, said in a company release. “The combination of their longstanding know-how in the dental space with our broad material science expertise and market access will unlock new opportunities to develop and commercialize high-performance solutions for the dental markets. Our rapid innovation capabilities fit very well with this dynamic market, and Keystone’s long history of polymer and ISO-compliant medical device manufacturing adds tremendous value to us.”

Keystone and Henkel will work to expand the penetration of the KeyPrint line through obtaining further validations and forming partnerships with 3D printer companies. The companies will also work together to create new materials for customized 3D solutions for the dental industry, market the solutions globally, explore opportunities, and provide education to the marketplace.

Earlier this month, Henkel revealed plans to invest $23 million to expand production of Dial brand hand soap and sanitizer products at its manufacturing facilities in Geneva, NY and West Hazelton, PA.
