Bayer Names New Head of Pharmaceuticals Unit in Americas

A pharmaceuticals industry veteran, Sebastian Guth, is slated to fill the role of President of Pharmaceuticals, Americas Region at Bayer starting Dec. 1 this year, the German firm announced in a press release Thursday. 

The incoming executive will succeed Carsten Brunn to lead the unit’s efforts the U.S., Canada, and Central and Latin America, Bayer’s biggest pharmaceutical business region in the world. He is currently a member of Bayer’s Pharmaceutical Executive Committee. 

“Sebastian brings significant global experience gained from leadership roles in strategy, marketing, and business development and a proven track record of successful execution at the local level that will be crucial as we continue our growth in the U.S. and across the Americas region,” Dietmar Weinand, president of Bayer Pharmaceuticals, said in a statement. 

Entering the pharmaceuticals industry at Schering AG, Guth held senior positions in Asia and the Middle East and became Head of Strategy and Business Development for the firm’s European business. Bayer acquired Schering in 2006 and Guth was elevated to the role of chief executive officer of Bayer Turk, Istanbul and served as a senior representative of the Bayer Group in Turkey.

Since October 2015, Guth has occupied the positions of Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Bayer’s global Pharmaceuticals unit. He also held the role of Chief Marketing Officer for Bayer’s global General Medicine business. 

Guth will be based out of Whippany, NJ.
