PPG Industries announced the completion of a $3 million expansion project at its Oak Creek, WI packaging coatings plant Monday, which added manufacturing capacity to produce a new generation of food-can coatings.

“This expansion significantly increases our packaging coatings manufacturing capability in the U.S., enabling us to meet growing demand for our industry-leading food-can coatings,” Ken West, vice president of PPG’s packaging coatings business, said in a press release. “This investment shows PPG’s continuing commitment to the packaging industry, and it strengthens our ability to meet emerging customer requirements for innovative technological solutions.”

The firm’s new food-can coatings are formulated for can makers and owners of food brands to comply with food contact regulations in North America and Europe. Positioning for changes ahead, PPG said the plant’s upgrade will give the firm “greater flexibility for production of specialized solutions to meet new requirements.”

PPG provides an array of packaging coatings products and services for a number of applications.
