American agribusiness Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) is expanding its portfolio of flavors and fragrances with the acquisition of Florida Chemical Company (FCC), a provider of citrus-based oils and food ingredients, the firm announced in a press release Friday.

“ADM is already a leader in natural flavors for food and beverages, offering a variety of high-value products and solutions in areas such as vanilla and mint, and this acquisition will place us in a leadership position for citrus flavors as well,” Vince Macciocchi, president of the agribusiness’ Nutrition unit, said in a statement. “Citrus is one of the fastest-growing flavor categories, and the single most important taste profile for beverages, and no one in North America does citrus better than the Florida Chemical Company.”

The Winter Haven, FL-based division of Flotek Industries produces citrus flavors and essential oils, flavor enhancers for a variety of citrus fruits, and citrus flavor modifiers for use in food and beverage products with natural or artificial sweetening agents.

“Florida Chemical’s citrus expertise, together with our combined leadership [with ADM] in research and development, will allow us to strategically accelerate and expand our diverse offering to a wide and growing customer base,” Florida Chemical Executive Vice President of Operations Josh Snively said in a statement. “Additionally, I am pleased that we will continue our strong relationship with Flotek through a long-term supply agreement and through the joint pursuit of next generation chemistry technologies for the energy and agriculture industries.”

FCC is expected to merge into ADM following the completion of regulatory approvals in the first quarter of this year. About 75 workers from FCC will join the agribusiness giant.
