These thermal screw conveyors are used for applications that require product streams to be thermally treated and conveyed from one point location to another. Various thermal media can be used. Hot water, oil, or steam can be used for heating and drying materials up to 400°F; cooling water and glycols can be used for cooling materials down to 25°F.

Typical applications include: sanitary grade designs for cooling cooked food products such as rice, corn, potatoes, and beets prior to final processing; microbial kill in food processing; cooling chemicals prior to bag packaging; drying grape pumice prior to seed separation; and biomass cooling prior to discharge into reactor vessels.

Thermal media is circulated throughout a jacket that is mounted on the outer surfaces of the conveyor trough. Heat is exchanged between the fluid and the material being conveyed by the auger. In addition to the jacket, thermal media can also be circulated in the shaft and hollow flighting of the auger, providing additional heating or cooling capacity.
Auger diameter and speed, flight pitch and conveyor length can be tailored to suit the heat balance requirements and floor space limits of any application.

Various designs are available to suit very specific process needs.
