A subsidiary of building materials firm LafargeHolcim, Lafarge Malaysia Berhad, is investing RM80 million (about $19.3 million) to replace aging dust control systems with bag filters at its three cement plants in the country, a press release announced Wednesday.

The company recently held an event to mark the commissioning of a newly-installed bag filter at its Kanthan plant in Perak, Malaysia. Lafarge Malaysia invested RM20 million ($4.8 million) to remove the plant’s electrostatic precipitator dust control system and install a new bag filter system that will lower the site’s dust emissions.

“Health, safety, and environment is one of our core principles in line with LafargeHolcim’s 2030 Plan for Sustainability. This investment underlies our unwavering commitment to responsible and sustainable operations as we ensure the health and safety of our employees and the communities we are operating in,” said Lafarge Malaysia President and Chief Executive Officer Mario Gross in a statement.

Lafarge said the bag filter will be cleaned at pre-programed times, moving dust particles into hoppers that recirculate the material into the site’s kiln process. The company did not detail when the installations at the other Malaysian plants will occur.
