A massive fire broke out Monday at the Village Bakery commercial bakery in the Wrexham Industrial Estate in Wrexham, Wales that severely damaged the structure.

Fire crews responded to the Coed Aben Road facility at about 8:40 a.m. The blaze ignited in a production area and then flames spread into an office block, according to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service. Six appliances, two aerial ladder platforms, environmental protection personnel, and an incident command unit were on scene during the incident.

The fire was brought under control by early afternoon, but firefighters remained at the Wrexham bakery through Tuesday morning.

“Thankfully, all members of staff who were in the building at the time are safe and well,” Village Bakery Managing Director Robin Jones said in a post on the company’s Facebook page. “In cooperation with the fire service, we are working hard to assess the scale of the damage to the affected bakery which makes Welsh cakes and crumpets.”

Village Bakery said its three other bakeries are operating normally. The cause of the fire is unknown.
