Nutritional extractions firm Viobin is planning to invest $6.1 million to add new capabilities to its hemp production plant in Michigan City, IN and acquire new processing equipment, the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City, IN announced in a release Monday.
“Our team is ready to take the next step toward developing our strong base here in the city,” Bill Streeter, vice president of corporate finance for VIobin’s parent company, Panhandle Milling, said in a statement. “With our expansion, we are carrying the tradition of manufacturing our products to the highest standards. By having top-notch extractions, final products are at optimum quality for consumers.”
During the expansion, Viobin will add hemp drying, feed production, and processing assets, including a hemp dryer, screen, pelletizer, and hammermill. The company acquired the facility in 2019 to process industrial hemp into cannabidiol (CBD) for use in lotions, isolates, and oils.
“Having a base for a sprouting industry right here in Michigan City is a tremendous opportunity,” said Economic Development Corporation Michigan City Executive Director Clarence Hulse in the release. “We look forward to continuing to work with a company that is on the ground level of hemp production here in Indiana.”
Viobin currently produces wheat germ oil, defatted wheat germ, CBD, and supplements.
