Leading U.S. foodservice distributor US Foods plans to acquire Hawthorne, CA-based FirstClass Foods, a custom meat processor and provider of portion control cuts of beef, pork, lamb, veal, poultry, seafood, and specialty products, US Foods announced by press release on Monday. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“US Foods has worked with FirstClass Foods for years and we’ve experienced the company’s commitment to high quality products and consistency,” said David Norton, president of US Foods’ Stock Yards unit, in a statement. “This acquisition will allow us to expand our center of the plate offering and better serve our customers throughout southern California.”

Rosemont, IL-based US Foods will operate FirstClass Foods’ current 50,000-sq-ft facility in Hawthorne as a US Foods Stock Yards site, retaining the firms 100 employees.

“We are excited about this new phase of our partnership with US Foods,” Solly Benzimra, president of FirstClass Foods, said in the release. “From the very beginning, we have delivered on our commitment to our customers and we are looking forward to the next chapter for our company as part of US Foods.”

US Foods expects the acquisition to come to a close this April.
