Biscoff cookies maker Lotus Bakeries is preparing to launch an $84 million project to add a new manufacturing facility to its existing site in Mebane, NC, according to a release issued Monday by the office of NC Gov. Roy Cooper.

The firm’s headquarters in Belgium and the North Carolina facilities are the firm’s only production locations for Biscoff cookies. Opened in 2019, the Mebane site is Lotus Bakeries’ sole US manufacturing plant.

“We are thrilled to further expand our manufacturing footprint in North Carolina,” Margo Joris, general manager for Lotus Bakeries US, said in a statement. “This expansion project will substantially increase our capacity in our plant in Mebane and we look forward to attract skilled employees to join our exciting journey.”

171,000 sq ft will be added to the site during the project that will house two additional production lines, warehouse operations, and areas for employees. 62 new jobs will be created through the investment, including operators, technicians, and material handling roles.

A performance-based grant of $120,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will support the firm’s expansion. Plans for the expansion were first announced in mid-2021.
