New Nestle Purina Pet Food Factory Opens in Brazil

Nestle opened a new Purina pet food factory in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil on Friday that will “provide new tasty, healthy options for pets and create jobs, while minimizing impact on the environment,” the Swiss company announced by press release.

The new facility will produce a range of wet cat and dog food, including Friskies, Cat Chow, Pro Plan, and Dog Chow brands. Nestle said “exclusive technology” that preserves the original characteristics of meat will be employed to produce natural and nutritious meals.

80 direct jobs and 400 indirect jobs will be created from the site’s opening, the Swiss company said.

The move comes in response to rising demand for pet food in the country and the region. No waste from the site will be sent to landfills, according to Nestle, and the facility uses sunlight, LED lamps, and a thermal energy recovery system to minimalize its environmental impact.

Laurent Freixe, Nestle executive vice president and head of the zone Americas, said in a statement that the new facility is evidence of the company’s confidence in Brazil and Latin America.

Nestle’s investment in the site totaled CF 85 million.
