Food and beverage giant Nestle is preparing to invest $70 million in an upgrade of its Burlington, WI production facility, several local news organizations and trade publications reported.

During the project at the Pine Street facility, production will be shifted from chocolate to refrigerated cookie dough products, coverage by The Kenosha News said. The facility previously manufactured chocolate bars like 100 Grand and Nestle Crunch. Nestle will continue to produce chocolate chips at the site, according to the newspaper.

“These four new lines will add new technology and infrastructure designed for refrigerated cookie dough,” a Nestle spokesperson told FoodBusinessNews.net. About 100 new jobs are expected to be created following the upgrade.

Operations on the new lines is expected to commence next summer, the News stated.

Nestle sold its confectionery business to Ferrero in 2018 for $2.8 billion. Last month, the Swiss-owned company said it is launching a $100 million expansion project at its Gaffney, SC frozen foods plant to help the company meet an uptick in demand for Stouffer’s and Lean Cuisine products.
