Lamb Weston to Spend $415M on French Fry Capacity Expansion

Food company Lamb Weston is moving forward on plans to add a new production line at its American Falls, ID production location, a company release announced July 22. The $415 million project aims to increase the site’s French fry processing capacity.

“We continue to be confident about the long-term health and growth of the global French fry market,” Lamb Weston CEO and President Tom Werner said in a statement. “This investment in American Falls complements our recently-announced plans to construct a greenfield French fry processing facility in China, as well as capacity expansion in Russia by our European joint venture, Lamb Weston/Meijer. Together, these investments will strengthen our global manufacturing network, and provide us added flexibility to meet demand growth and serve our customers around the world.”

The new line will have a capacity of over 350 million lb/yr of frozen French fries and other potato products.

In addition to the new line, the company also plans to modernize its existing facility. Work on the site is slated to reach completion by mid-2023. 130 new positions will be created because of the project.
