India’s Government to Invest in Food Processing Centers

The Indian government is establishing a new program to develop small and medium scale food processing developments near areas where growth of specific agricultural products is high, the country’s Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal announced Tuesday, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI) news service.

The measure is an effort to combat food waste and increase profits for farmers as production expands.

India’s food processing minister also said that to aid in preservation of food products, the government is considering assistance in building 100 cold storage center projects “in the near future,” PTI reported.
