Colgate-Palmolive subsidiary Hill’s Pet Nutrition has expanded its foothold in the European market with the close of its purchase of a canned pet food manufacturing plant in Italy from Nutriamo S.r.l.

“This acquisition represents an important step in our global supply chain strategy to continue meeting the growing demand by pet parents for our science-based nutrition,” said John Hazlin, president and CEO of Hill’s Pet Nutrition, in a release Monday. “We will move quickly to increase our capacity to produce canned food and the volume will grow over time as we are able to manufacture more of our products in the facility.”

Hill Pet Nutrition’s location is its first canned pet food plant in Europe. The company supplies dog and cat food products.
