A fire at a Nestle Purina pet food plant near Edmond, OK on Monday afternoon prompted the evacuation of about 250 workers, several local news organizations reported.

A contractor accidently welded a pipe on the site’s roof just before the fire started at about 2:30 p.m., officials told Oklahoma City television news station News 9.

Firefighters discovered flames in insulation in one of the plant’s towers, television news station KOCO News 5 said.

Though the plant was not operational at the time of the incident due to construction, workers present at the site were evacuated from the building for about 45 minutes, a Nestle Purina PetCare Company spokesperson, Wendy Vlieks, said in the KOCO’s report.

Flames did not reach the inside of the building and the company planned to go on with normal third shift operations, News 9 reported.
