Fire crews were sent to the General Mills production facility in Cedar Rapids, IA in the early hours of Saturday morning after a blaze ignited at the facility.

Responding around 3:45 a.m., crews arrived at the Edgewood Road plant to find hot spots by a vent stack on the structure’s roof, reported.

“Steam and smoke were visible near the area and thermal imaging confirmed high heat below their position,” Cedar Rapids Fire said in a post to its Facebook page. “Firefighters removed roofing material and found an active fire working its way through the ceiling and traveling with the vent stack.”

Firefighters used special saws and other tools to vent the roof. No one was injured during the incident.

General Mills announced plans to invest $37 million in an upgrade and modernization project at its Cedar Rapids location in August 2020. The facility manufactures frosting, fruit snacks, and cereal.
