American food firm General Mills is dedicating $37 million to upgrade and modernize its food production facility in Cedar Rapids, IA, according to a recent release issued by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).

The company intends to modernize an existing production line, acquire new machinery, and upgrade the line’s current production equipment to boost capacity. General Mills currently manufactures frosting, fruit snacks and cereal at the Cedar Rapids plant.

IEDA’s board approved project tax benefits through tis High Quality Jobs (HQJ) program, the organization said. The project will create about 50 new jobs.

Earlier this month, Powder & Bulk Solids reported that General Mills is preparing to start a multi-million expansion project at its frozen pizza snacks production facility in Wellston, OH. That project also aims to boost the facility’s capacity.
