Ammonia Leaks Reported at Pilgrim’s Pride Plant
The company’s poultry processing plant in Waco, TX experienced several ammonia leaks over two days.
A HAZMAT team was sent to the Pilgrim’s Pride poultry processing plant in Waco, TX two nights in a row after several ammonia leaks occurred, according to an account by television news station KWTX.
Workers evacuated the plant around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after the smell of ammonia was noticed in several areas of the facility, Waco Fire Lt. Keith Guillory told the broadcaster. The crew was sent to the plant Monday evening for another ammonia leak inside the location.
The fire official said the two leaks occurred in the same spot. Crews ventilated the building on Tuesday and all workers exited the building safely.
Powder & Bulk Solids reported in January that three people were hospitalized after an ammonia leak at a Pilgrim’s Pride plant in Canton, GA.
