Crews were dispatched to the Red River Commodities sunflower processing plant in Fargo, ND on Friday after a piece of equipment caught on fire, several local news organizations reported.
Called to the 42nd Street location at about 5:15 p.m., firefighters responded to the plant and observed a volume of smoke coming from a garage door, coverage by television news station KVRR said. Workers stated that the blaze ignited in a sunflower roasting oven.
The plant’s fire suppression system activated, and employees managed to douse most of the flames with fire extinguishers, according to ValleyNewsLive.com. Flames did not spread beyond the equipment.
One person was transported to an area hospital for be examined, stated an account by KFGO.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Red River Commodities is a supplier of food ingredients. The Fargo processing plant handles sunflowers and specialty crops and manufactures sunflower seed spread.
