5 Dead, 40 Injured in Chemical Factory Explosion

Five workers died and at least 40 suffered severe burns after an explosion and fire at a chemical factory at the port of Dahej in Bharuchin, India Wednesday.

 

The explosion, which took place at the Yashashvi Rasayan Private Ltd chemical factory, was heard almost two miles away. Almost 5,000 people have been moved from the neigboring villages of Lakhi and Luvara.

 

The blast was reportedly caused by a reaction that took place during a chemical process between two containers.

 

Fire officials were on the scene immediately, as was the disaster management team of the Bharuch district collector. 

 

An investigation was underway.
