Food industry packaging and processing equipment maker tna is acquiring NID Pty Ltd, an Australian provider of confectionery equipment that is considered a pioneer in the development of starch molding equipment, the Sydney, Australia company announced Monday.

The purchase will give tna access to NID’s starch molding technology, a move that will position tna to become the leading equipment supplier to the confectionery industry, the company said in a press release announcing the purchase.

“NID was the perfect fit for tna,” said the Sydney firm’s co-founder and chief executive officer Alf Taylor in a statement. “We share so many similarities. Both companies are family-owned businesses that started out with a passion for innovation, entrepreneurship, and the determination to design equipment that could ‘do better’ and go further than anything that’s been before.”

Founded in 1952 by Hans Arthur Faerber in Sydney, NID provides molding technology and ancillary equipment to many international customers. 600 of the firm’s Mogul systems are in use globally, according to tna.

The latest molding technology introduced by NID, the M3000 Mogul, is capable of production speeds of up to 35 trays per minute and is suitable for a number of starch-molded products like gums, jellies, marshmallows, licorice, and fondant crèmes.

“tna’s extensive resources, including its experienced sales and service team, multiple manufacturing sites, and well-established global distribution network will enable us to better service our existing customers by reducing lead times and accelerating time to market,” said Ester Faerber, NID chairperson and daughter of the company’s founder. “It’s a great opportunity for both companies and I’m sure that our shared commitment to engineering excellence and continuous research and development will provide a fantastic basis for the production of market-leading designs that will continue to ‘break the mold.’”

The acquisition became effective on March 1, 2017, with NID’s staff integrated into tna, according to the companies.
