Provider of material handling and packaging equipment Premier Tech is investing $7 million in the capacity expansion of one of its Riviere-du-Loup, QC manufacturing plants in response to increased demand in the Americas for the firm’s automated packaging systems, the company announced Monday.

The company plans to add 2300 sq m to its Industrial Equipment Group site, with construction slated to begin this March. In addition to the expanded space, Premier Tech will add a final assembly area for automated packaging systems and an isolated area for stainless steel work due to “the considerable increase in sales in the food industry that the Group has been experiencing for several years,” a company release said.

30 new employees will be added to the site’s existing staff of 60 over the next three years, according to Premier Tech, and the plant’s total surface area will reach about 7000 sq m.

“This expansion is a major step for our Industrial Equipment Group teams,” said president and chief executive officer of Premier Tech, Jean Belanger, in a statement. “It demonstrates the extent of our teams’ skills. Our clients, regardless of where they are from, don’t hesitate to come to Riviere-du-Loup because they recognize the state-of-the-art nature of our solutions. The growth potential is considerable.”

This winter, Premier Tech announced a $15 million investment in the Riviere-du-Loup campus’ road network and the erection of a three-story office building.
