New Orders for Conveyor Equipment Total $12B in 2016

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reports that 2016 shipments in North America were up 1.6%. CEMA estimates that shipments totaled $12.188 billion for 2016, a record level and an increase of $265 million from 2015 shipments of $11.923 billion.

CEMA estimates that new orders totaled $12.324 billion in 2016. New orders in 2016 were $1.17 billion more than 2015, representing an increase of 9.8%.

Unit Handling orders were up 17.0% and shipments were up 5.8%. In the Bulk Conveying area, orders were down 5.4% and shipments were down 7.7%.

CEMA President, Garry Abraham, announced the results at the Association’s 84th annual meeting in Phoenix, AZ earlier this month.

The organization tracks new orders and shipped sales volume in nine classes of unit handling equipment and four classes of bulk handling equipment.

The executives representing CEMA member companies who attended the annual meeting expressed cautious optimism and forecasted shipments will increase 7.5% for 2017.
