Industrial, medical and specialty gases supplier Airgas recently held an event to mark the grand opening of its new liquid carbon dioxide (C02) and dry ice production facility in Stockton, CA, the Air Liquide-owned firm announced on July 18.

“We announced our plans to build this facility in March 2018 to have three strategically located C02 plants in Northern, Central, and Southern California and today, we deliver on that commitment,” said Mark Whitton, regional president of Airgas NCN, in a company press release.

Gaseous carbon dioxide that is generated during ethanol production will be processed into 500 tn/day of liquid carbon dioxide at the California plant, according to the company. Food and beverage grade C02 made at the site can be used in applications like food packaging and carbonated drinks.

A plant located next to the liquid carbon dioxide facility will manufacture 250 tn/day of dry ice for food, agriculture, life science, and industrial end users.
