Beauty care, home care products, and adhesives manufacturer Henkel revealed plans Tuesday to invest $130 million in an expansion of the company’s laundry detergent facility in Bowling Green, KY. The project aims to bolster Henkel’s position in the U.S. laundry market.

“This new investment at our flagship laundry detergent production facility will help us build on our strong market position in the U.S. laundry market, with our iconic brands that consumers know and love,” said Stephan Fuesti-Molnar, president of Henkel Consumer Goods North America, in a company press release, adding, “With 70% of U.S. households buying laundry and home care products made by Henkel, we are well positioned for sustainable long-term growth in the region.”

The company’s plans include modernized infrastructure, new equipment, and upgraded IT systems to boost the site’s efficiency.

Henkel also said it will work with packaging supplier ALPLA to outfit the bottle production area of its Bowling Green campus with new technology and infrastructure. A 17,000-sq-ft packaging facility will be added to the Bowling Green complex that ALPLA will conduct bottle blowing operations.

“While these packaging operations will be handled by a trusted supplier with expertise in this area, Henkel will focus on its core expertise of manufacturing and marketing high-quality laundry and home care products that consumers have come to know and trust,” Dirk Holbach, senior vice president global supply chain, Laundry & Home Care at Henkel, said in the release. “This partnership represents another step forward in Henkel’s international supply chain strategy to leverage its operational expertise to drive efficiency and sustainability, from manufacturing all the way through to our customers.”
