Drying Machinery Involved in Blaze at MDF Plant

Crews responded to the West Fraser WestPine medium density fiberboard (MDF) plant in Quesnel, BC on Wednesday after a fire ignited in a piece of industrial drying equipment, fire officials told the Quesnel Cariboo Observer

During the incident, the flames were contained to the machinery, Quesnel Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier told the newspaper. The fire was doused by a sprinker system that activated and workers at the plant.

West Fraser is a wood products manufacturer that operates facilities across Western Canada and the southern U.S. The firm produces lumber from spruce, pine, fir, and southern yellow pine, as well as plywood and MDF panels, engineered wood products, pulp and paper, newsprint, wood chips, and other products.
