Japanese firm Mitsubishi Chemical Company (MCC) entered into an exclusive partnership with AM Polymers GmbH, a German 3D printing materials company, to develop and commercialize polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) powders for industrial additive manufacturing applications, the companies announced in a release this week.
PBT powder offers lower moisture absorption characteristics compared to polyamide 12, according to the companies. Products developed by the companies will be used in industrial applications, including automotive and aerospace.
MCC and AM Polymers are preparing to launch a beta version of ROLASERIT PABT01 powder for client evaluation in Europe. The companies are working together to create new additive manufacturing powders from PBT feedstock that has been optimized by MCC.
The German company produces thermoplastic powders for use in selective laser sintering (SLS) and powder bed fusion (PBF) processes.
