China Building 40 Manufacturing Innovation Centers
August 30, 2016
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology plans on building 40 manufacturing innovation centers by 2025 as part of the country’s “Made in China 2025” initiative to support its domestic manufacturing sector in the coming years, Chinese state-operated Xinhua reported Tuesday.
With about 15 centers set to be built by 2020, the facilities will focus on innovations in information technology, advanced manufacturing, biomedicines, and new materials, the news agency said.
The country is exploring value-added manufacturing opportunities as it pivots away from “low-end” production, Xinhua’s report said.
China’s value-added industrial output increased by 6.1% in 2015, and overall manufacturing output grew by 7%.
